This is what silica glass looks like.

The animations below show two different relaxation events occuring in silica glass under high pressure. These events occur as sudden large jumps of atoms. On the basis of local relaxation events, I was able to learn quite a lot about relaxation phenomena in glasses as well as in liquids.

Some of my PhD work at Cambridge: the movies below animate two-level systems in glasses, groups of tetrahedra undergoing sudden large jumps. The movies have superimposed the initial configuration in order to highlight the jumps.
